Staffordshire is an unspoilt and uncrowded county of beautiful woodlands, historic towns and stunning scenery encompassing a National Park, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the National Memorial Arboretum.

The Peak District and Staffordshire Moorlands in the north offer invigorating climbs through meandering limestone dales, gritstone crags and heather moorlands. Flash, the highest village in England at 1514 feet above sea level, lies just outside the historic market town of Leek.

The National Forest in the east of the county is an idyllic place for leisurely walking and pony trekking. Over 7 million trees have been planted in recent years within the 200 square miles of forest to create new and maturing woodland. Within the National Forest at Alrewas just outside Lichfield, you can visit The National Memorial Arboretum, the UK’s living centre of Remembrance, opened by the Queen in 2007.

Cannock Chase in the west, is Britian’s smallest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, comprising 26 square miles of ancient heathland. This is serious mountain biking country with professionally maintained cycle track and pathways. This was once part of the royal hunting forest and you can see fallow deer and many species of woodland birds in the forests of pines and birch trees.

Two miles north of Swinfen Hall lies the Georgian city of Lichfield, birthplace of Samuel Johnson and David Garrick and home to Erasmus Darwin, physician, poet, natural philosopher, inventor and grandfather to Charles Darwin. Here you can visit museums dedicated to Johnson and Darwin as well as the beautiful medieval cathedral, where the Staffordshire Hoard is currently on permanent display.

Swinfen is a great place to celebrate special occasions with family and friends.  The Benjamin Wyatt room, our oak-panelled private dining room, comfortably seats 22 guests whilst the Wedgwood table in the Upper restaurant provides a semi-private area for up to 15 guests.  So whether you are thinking of a formal black-tie dinner for your silver anniversary or a family get-together to celebrate grandma’s 90th birthday- Swinfen is the place to be.

The private dining menus have a comprehensive selection of dishes, from which you can create your own multiple-choice menu or you can opt for a 5-course Tasting Menu.  Greet your guests with Champagne and canapés on the cocktail terrace, meet for drinks in the bar or head straight to the table – we can tailor-make the perfect party.

If you’re thinking big – our ballroom can seat up to 110 guests for a private dinner or buffet party.

We have 17 luxurious bedrooms and suites with additional beds and cots available for our younger guests in selected rooms.

Staying over not only ensures a very memorable celebration but gives you the opportunity to explore Swinfen’s beautiful gardens and grounds where you can see our small flock of rare-breed Manx Loaghtan sheep and our thriving herd of sika deer.
